Memorialising the Torrid Times

Migrants on the Move: Precarity in Times of the Pandemic edited by Pushpendra, Amit Ranjan and Shashank Chaturvedi, Delhi: Aakar Books, 2022; pp 398, `1,250 (hardcover).

Reviewing a newly edited volume titled Migrants on the Move: Precarity in Times of the Pandemic edited by Pushpendra, Amit Ranjan and Shashank Chaturvedi brought back unpleasant memories of the migrant worker crisis. The crisis, resulting from the nationwide lockdown in 2020, is considered to be the most stringent measure then implemented (Hale et al 2020). But instead of shying away from that trauma, we need more such reflections to memorialise the torrid time; as a tribute to the resilience of millions of workers; as a gratitude to numerous civil society organisations, some government officials and thousands of individuals for their relief efforts; and as a monument of the union governments failure.
